In our blog post, Breathe In, Breathe Out: Effective Breathing Exercises for Anxiety Relief, we walk you through step-by-step processes of different breathing techniques. Whether you find it difficult to guide yourself through a breathing exercise, you hate being told to "take a deep breath" or you're trying to teach a child how to self-soothe, bubbles might be a useful tool to make breathwork more interesting!
The idea is simple: blow some bubbles!
As you start blowing, though, you'll realize that things get a little bit more complex:
You can't blow too quickly or else the bubble might pop or not appear at all.
You have to aim your breath at the bubble wand, especially if you have a smaller wand!
You have to keep a steady flow of air blowing to make the bubble bigger
You might take deeper breaths to get more air
All of these factors mean that, naturally, you'll end up focusing on your breath and pacing it to some degree. Blowing bubbles also gives you a fun visual to look at and something to do with your hands, which may be a helpful grounding tool to get you out of your brain.
Bubble wands come in all shapes and sizes, from mini keychain travel sizes to giant bubble sculpting kits. You can blow bubbles before a big exam, you can teach your child to blow bubbles, and you can blow some bubbles when you start feeling nervous.
Breathwork can be fun, simple, and whatever works for you!
