Ruifen Tan

Ruifen works with individuals navigating multicultural concerns, life transitions, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, relational challenges, and other mental health concerns. She draws from an eclectic mix of approaches—including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, solution-focused therapy, and emotion-focused therapy—tailoring to her clients’ unique needs. Her styleis nonjudgmental, person-centered, and empathetic, fostering a safe and supportive space where
clients feel truly heard and understood.

Ruifen will work with clients to explore their unique experiences and values, cultivating deeper self-awareness and insight. With a greater understanding of oneself, they will feel more empowered to make thoughtful, intentional choices
that align with their goals.

Having once been an international student herself, Ruifen understands the challenges of adapting to new environments, balancing multiple identities, and maintaining relationships while managing emotional stress. Whether you are struggling with self-doubt, feeling stuck, or healing from past experiences, her goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and empowered to
create meaningful change.

Ruifen earned her master’s degree in counseling from Michigan State University, where she found a sense of belonging and was supported by professors and peers who helped her grow personally and professionally. Ruifen offers counseling in three different languages, including English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Outside of her work, Ruifen enjoys staying active and exploring new activities with friends—whether it’s pickleball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, rock climbing, or even running a half-marathon. Curious and adventurous by nature, she brings the same spirit of openness and discovery into her work with clients. She looks forward to hearing your story, getting to know you, and helping you deepen your understanding of yourself.
